Sorenson Communications Deaflympics Connecting You Trip
Win a trip for two to the 16th Winter Deaflympics!

We are happy to announce that three winners have been chosen for our Sorenson Communications Deaflympics Connecting You Trip contest. The winners were chosen for the quality of their written entries, 100 words or less, about the impact of video relay services (VRS) on their lives by helping them connect with others and remove communication barriers.

The prize for the contest includes expenses-paid trips for each winner and a guest to the 16th Winter Deaflympics, held from February 1-10, 2007, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Sorenson Communications is the Official VRS and IP Relay Provider for the 16th Winter Deaflympics. The company is also a Gold Sponsor for the 16th Winter Deaflympics and is co-presenter, along with the 16th Winter Deaflympics Organizing Committee, of the 2007 Deaflympics EXPO.

The winners are:

Jane B. and Michael D. Golightly of Washington, D.C.
"Sorenson VRS helped me find my lost cousin. Without talking with my 93 year old aunt, the hearing sister of my Deaf mother, I would never have found him. Based on almost daily VRS conversations with my aunt, I documented family history that only my aunt knew. One day she exclaimed, 'I found this letter, and guess what: your cousin teaches at Gallaudet!' I dialed VRS right away, and spoke with my cousin for the first time. We are now planning a family reunion for next summer. Thanks to Sorenson for making my family larger and our relationships closer."

Cathy Ann Prusak of Sainte Genevieve, MO
"When my baby daughter was ill and I was debating whether to visit to the emergency room (ER) or wait until the next day to call the pediatrician, I called the ER via VRS. I was able to see the emotional tones by how the VRS interpreter relayed conversation. It was a seemingly small factor that led me to take my daughter to the ER. This "small" influence was the right decision, because I was able to help make my daughter comfortable with the aid of medications and proper instruction. It brought comfort to me, too!"

Michelle Sumner of Colorado Springs, CO.
"I am a professional. With TTY, my communication has often been miscommunicated by the TTY relay operator, who misunderstands the tone behind my words. The other party becomes upset, and my professionalism is jeopardized. Now with Sorenson, I can connect to a Sign Language Interpreter through VRS. My messages are clear since there is face-to-face interaction. I do not misunderstand the caller's voice and they do not misunderstand my tone of voice. My professionalism remains intact and my message is conveyed accurately. I am so thankful for the ease of communication that Sorenson Video Relay Service provides. No more miscommunication!"

Thank you to everyone who entered.
