100% Access by 2010!

At Sorenson Communications, we believe that 100% of deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals needing VRS should have access by the year 2010! Currently, it is estimated that only 6-10% of those who could utilize VRS have access to the service. The barriers to getting VRS need to be eliminated through collaborative efforts of all VRS providers and community leaders. We propose the LEAP program as the way to make 100% Access by 2010 a reality.

The LEAP program is made up for four simple steps with the goal of reaching 100% of signing individuals who could benefit from VRS by the year 2010. Here are the four steps of the LEAP program:

Step One: Locate individuals - Find deaf individuals in rural or underserved areas
Step Two: Examine needs - Find out what is needed to ensure VRS accessibility
Step Three: Access via installation - Install videophones to provide communication
Step Four: Provide Training - Train individuals on how to use VRS technology
Goal All VRS providers collaborate to reach 100% of deaf individuals by the year 2010!
